LIS Book Week 2024: A Celebration of Reading for Pleasure
By Harveen Cucarano
Imagine walking into a school transformed into a world of literary characters. That was the scene during LIS Book Week on Wednesday, 13th March! With a theme centred on “Reading for Pleasure”, the entire EYP and PYP campus buzzed with excitement as students and staff dressed as beloved characters from various books.
From the get-go, it was a feast for the eyes with vibrant posters created by our students lining the hallways, each one a colourful declaration of our collective passion for reading.
Parents joined in, visiting classrooms to share stories with eager students, their involvement bringing an added layer to our reading community. Teachers, not to be outdone, turned classrooms into cosy reading havens. Picture curling up in a tent with a mini makeshift fireplace or lounging in pyjamas while diving into a captivating tale.
The library transformed into a serene park-like setting where books were the stars of the show. Students had the chance to ‘taste’ different genres, discovering new favourites in a setting reminiscent of a quaint cafe.
The week was packed with creative endeavours. Students embarked on a book scavenger hunt that took them on a literary tour of the PYP library. Workshops were set up for crafting their own comics and delving into poetry, sparking new interest and showcasing different ways to enjoy stories. Upper PYP students showed leadership by reading to the younger EYP and lower PYP students, helping to foster a love of reading among the younger set.
Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive, with many feeling inspired to explore new books and eagerly anticipating the next Book Week in 2025.
A big thank you to all the parents who supported the event, our dedicated staff who made this incredible week possible and of course, our fantastic students, whose enthusiasm and participation truly brought this week to life. A special thank you to the staff involved in the Book Day Team: Ms Louise, Ms Christel, Ms Jo, Ms Naglaa, Mr Peter and Ms Heather.
As we look forward to Book Week 2025, let’s keep the pages turning and continue to celebrate the joy of reading at LIS!
