Hands on Science
MYP2 Delta Students
On Monday morning(18th December), we – the MYP2 – showcased our science experiments centered around the topic of our current unit – Force. Experiments included balloon rockets, spinners, Newton’s hat, and more. In this article, we talk about the experience that the PYP6s had viewing our gallery of scientific knowledge, as well as how hosting this event went for us.
The event began with us setting up the experiments and preparing ourselves to present our work. As the PYPs arrived, they walked around, sometimes stopping at a table to listen to our findings. Most of them found our explanations interesting, and others even asked questions. What was most fun and fascinating for all of us was the actual conducting of the experiments and showing them to the PYPs.
At the beginning of this event, some of us had a rather difficult time explaining what we looked into, but as time passed, our confidence grew. The PYP6s were fantastic listeners, as well as avid learners, and it was exciting for us to share our knowledge with the two classes. We managed to apply a number of topics discussed throughout the unit, such as Newton’s laws and real-life examples of force types mentioned in our explanations.
In conclusion, the day went quite well with many of the PYPs engaging in the explanations and demonstrations of the experiments. We MYPs had a good time socializing with one another, as well as connecting with the younger students. We believe the PYPs left with a greater understanding of the concepts we outlined.
